Scholastic holds an annual regional and national art contest where students are given the opportunity to submit art, writing, and photography to be judged and awarded gold, silver keys or honorable mentions. The Gold Key Regional winners advance to the National competition - this year 124,000 pieces were submitted at the national level; only 1,000 then received National Gold and Silver Keys - Bathtub Barbie won a Scholastic's National Gold Key for Photography.
